Garden Fox Watch
Our garden foxes...
Welcome to the Garden Fox Watch blog, detailing the life and times of the family of foxes that are growing up in our back garden.
Strange sights

I really hope that Foxcam has picked up the strange vision I saw about half an hour ago; a fox cub purposefully trotting back towards its den, carrying a slice of bread in its mouth. Mostly strange because the slice of bread was about the size of the cub’s head… Also, apparently slices of bread are worthy adversaries which require careful stalking before being pounced on. Who knew?

The evening videos — in daylight, more or less — were definitely of more interest than the overnight videos from this morning’s haul. The cubs and their Mum had some dinner and then played a little bit.
One of the local crows was rather vocal about wanting some of the food which had been put out for the foxes, and did swoop down to take a few bits. It won’t tangle with the vixen, and seems shy of bothering the cubs as well, now that they’re getting bigger — although they are probably still more scared of it than it is of them.
It’s also noticeable that the cubs’ tails are starting to fill out a little more. When they were smaller, their tails were thin and very much tapered to a point; they’re now starting to become more even in thickness.

Not even the foxes like the rain

Today was a damp and unpleasant day; we didn’t see the foxes in daylight at all, they only came out after dark…
Fox cub stuck in a watering can

The BBC have some pictures of a baby fox being rescued from a watering can. Luckily, not one of ours!

I don’t know what the dandelions in my garden have done to deserve it, but the foxes suddenly seem very interested in them! (All right, perhaps it’s because the dandelions concerned were in the middle of the food I’d put out for the foxes.) Also, photographic evidence that at least one of our cats is not all that concerned about the foxes; watchful, rather than worried.

Evening of the 6th/morning of the 7th

I rather pity our resident vixen — it can’t be easy bringing up four children cubs. She’s keen to make sure the cubs are always well-groomed, no matter what time of night it is, but the cubs are just as determined to get under her feet and have more ATTENTION TO ME NOW NOW NOW…
